With over 37 million creators on YouTube today, it can feel almost impossible to find your voice, your audience, and grow your channel to over 1,000 subscribers. However, the good news is that while it can feel impossible, it is by no means out of your reach. In this article, I’ll walk you through 6 tips for getting your first 1,000 subscribers on YouTube.
1 – Be Consistent
Becoming a “YouTuber” is a craft that requires you to work and show up as you would if you were working in your office job.
This means that in order to grow your audience and gain trust from your viewers, you must prove to them that subscribing to you will yield consistently available fresh pieces of content.
In order to be consistent, you must first choose your desired posting schedule. Whether it’s one video per week every Friday, two videos per week every Monday and Thursday, or any other variation of the sort, make sure that your audience recognizes it. It’ll help reinforce the idea that you are consistently delivering them valuable content, worthy of subscribing for.
2 – Themes & Niches
Aesthetics have become increasingly valuable when it comes to YouTube channels.
One of the most beneficial things you can do as a new creator is create consistent themes across your channel. This can mean that all of your thumbnails use the same font and layout, you create playlists and form series across your videos, and ensure that when someone comes across your channel, they know exactly what they should find from you.
3 – Don’t be Afraid to “Bait” Your Viewers Into Clicking
One of the issues I’ve had to internally deal with as a YouTube creator is whether or not to bait my audience through my titles.
What I’ve learned is that in order to be successful on YouTube, you must invoke a sense of curiosity and emotion into your work. If potential viewers know exactly what to expect before they click, how can you expect them to click?
The key here is to use some truthful exaggeration to tempt your viewers into clicking.
4 – Create Amazing Content
Following up on the last point, suppose you succeed at tempting your viewers into clicking, now your job is to engage them and make sure that they enjoy what they’re watching.
In order to do this, you have to have a compelling first 30 seconds of content. As I previously said, people need their emotions to be slightly invoked in order to become curious and interested. It is therefore your job to hook them early and engage them until the end.
5 – Engage With YouTube Communities
The single principle activity I performed to hit my first 1,000 subscribers was leave insightful comments on other YouTubers’ videos.
While this does take a lot of time and energy, it comes at the gain of an engaged community, and potentially many new friends. All you need to do is delegate about 30-60 minutes per day. Find similar channels and leave positive comments on their pieces of content. Not only will you make those creators better, but you’ll entice them to check you out, and maybe bring their audience too!
